Kindergarten Teacher and Elementary Executive

I am currently teaching Kindergarten and am also the Executive over Elementary grades. I previously taught 2nd grade here. This will be my fifth year at VCA. My middle daughter, Valerie, taught here in the Middle School and was the one who told me of an opening. When she first approached me in May of that year, I was not interested because I was happy staying home helping take care of my then two year old grandson. But in August when she told me that they just found out they had a 2nd grade opening, I knew God wanted me to pursue it! I was surprised that He changed my heart so quickly, but so grateful that He has placed me here at VCA. My passion is to see kids grow in Christ and to work closely with parents. I get to do both of those things here and I love my job!

I began my teaching career in Christian schools in Kansas, teaching a variety of grade levels (Preschool, Kindergarten, 6th grade, and 7th/8th grade Math and Science) for 7 years before becoming a stay at home mom. When we moved to Boise, I began substituting in preschools and day care centers, then taught at Boise Cooperative Preschool 11 years before coming to VCA. I have a BS in Elementary Education with a Specialization in Early Childhood Education.

I was the first in my immediate family to accept Jesus as the Lord of my life when I was a sophomore in high school. It has been quite a journey of growing in the Lord since that time. I began to really grow in college when a woman who ran the local Christian bookstore took a couple of us young women under her wing and showed us how to study the Bible and how to truly have a relationship with God. Fast forward to now and my husband and I are Associate Pastors at Grace Family Church here in town. I head up Children’s Church and he is the main Sound person. We love seeing people come to Jesus and grow in their relationship and fellowship with Him! I have been married to my husband, Steven, for 38 years. He is a Computer Programmer at Blue Cross of Idaho. We have three grown daughters, Stephanie, Valerie, and Emilie, and two grandsons with one more grandchild on the way.
