Middle School Social Studies

I was working full time at another school and realized I needed to take a step back to spend more time with my daughter. I started researching schools in the area knowing I wanted to continue teaching, but not to the extent I was before. I stumbled upon VCA and immediately knew God had directed me there. I met with Annie and was soon able to begin substituting. After much prayer and only a little waiting God provided the perfect position for me to fill as a middle school teacher.

I started at VCA as a substitute last fall. I was then offered the middle school social studies position in January and will continue to teach social studies this year, as well as a math class and homeroom. I started working in education several years ago as a preschool classroom aid. I then went on to get my BA of Mathematics from Western Governors University degree in math education and taught at a Christian school in North Carolina for 3 years.

I was raised going to church and accepted Jesus as my savior at a young age. However, it wasn’t until 9th grade that I really began to understand what it meant to be a Christian. I felt called to go on a short term mission trip that summer with my youth group and was able to really see what it looked like to follow Christ. I have since continued to grow in my faith and understanding of the Lord, looking for opportunities to serve him in whatever I do. I have been married to my amazing husband for 6 years and our daughter Florence is almost a year and a half.
